Eli van Hassen is the darklord of the Endless Road, the patriarch of the van Hassen Family. He resides within the boundaries of his his estate, protected by his faith and the special abilities afforded to him by the Dark Powers. However, he is also effectively trapped inside of it, for to leave is to met the wrath of the Horseman, a hero Eli had direly wronged so many years ago.
Background
the former ruler of the hamlet of Tranquility. Highly ambitious, he loathed his community and people for being beneath the significance and power for what he yearned for. After Tranquility was ravaged by a hydra, a hero known only as the Horseman arrived in town and slew the beast, winning the hearts of the commoners.
After his daughter became totally infatuated with the newcomer, Eli van Hassen devised a plan to be rid of him. Eli demanded his daughter, Talitha van Hassen to bear false witness against the Horseman for rape and then ordered the guard to capture him. Brought before a riled up mob, the Horseman insisted on his innocence. However, van Hassen ordered his execution.
A week later, the Mists drifted over Tranquility and took away the van Hassens and their servants. The Execution of the Horseman was the seminal event that caused the formation of the Endless Road, a Shadowfell domain.
