Masters of Steadwall and much of the Arden River[1], the Halloways were slowly killed off by Smythe the Ferryman if the Smythe's Secret dread possibility is true.[2]

An account set forth by the Weathermay-Foxgrove Twins in Van Richten's Guide to the Mists (Item) suggests another possibility for the Halloways' downfall: they were taken or killed by Mistlings. Laurie Weathermay-Foxgrove and Gennifer Weathermay-Foxgrove encountered and fought a group infesting the Halloway House[3]
