Mr. Klein

Mr. Klein is the darklord of Nzari (along with Gatwe, whom was the sole darklord of Nzari before Mr. Klein entered the picture). Unlike Gatwe, Mr. Klein is a foreigner; he is Dementlieuse. A fanatical devotee to Ezra, Mr. Klein fights a neverending war (gradually turning into genocide) to convert the Mwele people to her worship and to generally dominate them.

Background

Mr. Klein's operations began with the hunting of elephants for ivory. So excessive was his hunting operations it caused the Nzarian people to rebel and start reacting violently. Mr. Klein responded in kind by bringing in some of the roughest scum the Core had to offer. He also persuaded the alienated among the Mwele youth to join in cause in return for wealth and plunder.

Mr. Klein's marauding eventually drew the attention of Gatwe, whom now had his broken one identity. Mr. Klein's men scattered in the face of Gatwe and his controlled animals. Mr. Klein, however, stayed, using massive doses of alchemist's fire to cause a massive (if temporary) blaze, driving away Gatwe and his minions in the confusion.

Although badly wounded and burnt, Mr. Klein's victory over Gatwe won him admiration, even worship, among many of the Mwele people. He had defeated a hated monster. However, Mr. Klein did not want to be venerated as a god; he wanted to convert them to Ezra. He initiated a round of maiming and torture against the confused populace, causing them to rise up violently and massacre the majority of the oppressor colonists. Hoping to cow Mr. Klein through a show of intimidation, the rebels gathered up the corpses of his former foreigner henchman and consumed them in a cannibalistic feast. Unfortunately for them, they had no such luck.

Mr. Klein responded to the rebellion with more oppressive force. He sent in the Mwele still loyal to them to suppress the rebels. His men did so and drug them before him. Rebels and innocent family member alike had their skin removed and then were decapitated. Mr. Klein had their heads put on sticks surrounding his home as a reminder to those who rebel. Thus, he became a darklord.

Current Sketch

The Dark Powers have made Klein nearly invincible, at least in the physical sense, only adding to the rumors of his immortality. However, his efforts for conversion have been mostly for naught, as he has yet to convert anyone Mr. Llein still is hoarding elephant ivory, but he does not yet know he has been cut off from the outside. Just as well, as he has become a misanthrope, hating his fellows back in the Core for being too weak.

The Dark Powers have cursed Mr. Klein of seeing through the eyes of Gatwe as Klein sleeps. This horrifies Klein but attributes it to the depredations of the native people. If he manages to conquer and civilize them, Mr Klein figures, then the nightmares will stop. For his part, Mr. Klein does not understand the true nature of Gatwe or the threat he represents.
