Skull beetles are so-called by the patches of dark coloring along their waxy carapaces that resemble smiling human skulls.^[1]

Skull beetles are solitary and overly aggressive (to even the point of suicide) beetles despite their miniscule sizes. People throughout the Core dread them for their instantly fatal, poisonous bites and ability to spew acid from their mouths. Luckily, they confine themselves to moist or water-logged areas such as marshes and swamps.^[2]
