Ashen Fever, sometimes errantly translated from Sithican language as White Fever[1] is a horrid plague that has taken thousands of lives in Sithicus across the twenty some years since its initial spread across Sithicus. This disease has a long incubation period, gradual effects, and its start infecting the old allowed the disease to spread without notice for a number of years. Yet its mysterious arrival was bookended by its similarly mysterious disappearance under unknown circumstances[2]

Effects

Ashen Fever is an unusually long lived disease, taking several years to manifest to its fullest conclusion. After a year long incubation period, ashen fever causes the body to age rapidly over the course of several years. Said rapid aging can be reversed by successful recovery from the disease. Over the long run, the disease is disfiguring, afflicting its victims with long-lasting pustules and sores during the second phase. As the disease increases in intensity, it also makes its victims' eyes bulge, skin/hair grow pale, and bends the body to a stooping state[2] .

History

The Ashen Fever first appeared in Sithicus sometime post 720 BC, initial afflicting only the elderly and thus its afflicitons were attributed to normal (if premature) aging. Over the years, the fever began infecting younger and younger people, eventually causing the public to notice the outbreak of this plague. Still its body count had taken a tool of thousands of people before mysterious ceasing[2] .

In 733 BC, Azrael Dak became one of the infected, his stint of the existence lasting until 736 BC whereupon his werebadger physiology threw off the ashen fever. By this year, the disease was largely still obscure[3].

The Ashen Fever saw a climax in 744 BC as it devastated the domain's population. Though it eventually receded, it remains unknown if or when the disease will return[2].

Other Information

Ashen Fever's mistranslation to White Fever causes it sometimes to be confused with the White Fever of neighboring Valachan, although these two are entirely separate entities[1].
