Black Hat the Swordslinger

To the people of Caleb Wicks' home world, Black Hat the Swordslinger was a marauder and brigand so nefarious he became something of a scary story to frighten people with. Horatio Wicks was the only one who could deter Caleb's delinquency, and he did it by telling stories of the horrible things Black Hat did. This inculcated almost a phobia of Black Hat in Caleb.

Caleb blamed his murder of Wayward's town crier on Black Hat. His shocking story not only passed on the blame but also made the townspeople feel sorry for them.

Even after becoming a darklord, Caleb greatly fears the mere mention of Black Hat. Mistress Chatty knows about Caleb's fear of Black Hat.
