Of distant relation to Lord Herod Ashington, Byron Ashington Welles arrived at Ashington Manor some 3 years after its abandonment in the wake of the massacre and Ashington Curse. Unlike Lord Herod Ashington, Lord Byron Ashington-Welles was of Good and altruistic nature and also one of Hala's clergy. He established a hospice, the Blessed Hall of Ashington, upon the manor grounds in order to redeem the name of the Ashington Family. During the years of its operation, the staff of the hospice helped innumerable needy and injured folks who passed through its doors.

Yet the Ashington Curse would not be denied. Ashington-Welles unknowingly employed a very evil man named Gavel to lead the guards responsible for the security of the hospice. Mirroring events in Ashington Manor's tragic past, Gavel raped and killed one of Hala's priestesses and managed to cover it up by convincing everyone she simply left. The full curse kicked in thereafter, as Gavel and his closest subordinates- under the baleful influence of Maekon, went on a killing spree throughout the manor before meeting their own end on each other's blades or Maekon's death gaze[1].
