As of 724 BC, Captain Garvyn commanded the ship known as the Endurance, which he inherited from his uncle Killian.[1] Later he was cursed by the Dark Powers for grave robbing and corpse defilement.[2] In particular, he dumped overboard the corpses of Madeline Stern, Jacob, and Charlotte Reisland, which he had been hired to deliver to Todstein.[3] In consequence, his ship became the Ship of Horrors and remained so until the curse was broken in 737 BC, whereupon the captain and his vessel were returned to the land beyond the Mists whence they had come.[4]

"The Curse of Captain Garvyn" from Quoth the Raven Issue 32 argues that Captain Garvyn and his crew were cursed for grave robbing, not for refusing to deliver Madeline, Jacob, and Charlotte's corpses to Meredoth. It also asserts that Garvyn and his crew did not return home. Instead, they accepted punishment for their crimes by returning to the beaches of Todstein where the ghosts of their victims waited.[5]
