Little is known about coraltan, with Friar Whelm currently being the only known specimen. If he is typical for this strain of undead monster, coraltan are, when not in disguise, easily recognizable as undead, possess tangled maws, their appearance and nature is such that they may intimidate even vampires, and they are capable of feeding on the lifeforce of the living without a need for physical contact, causing the victim to age at an unnatural rate. The use of an 'energy spike' - visible as a flying spark that travels to and fro between the coraltan and a victim - enables the coraltan to draw a substantially larger amount of energy, though the amount the target ages is likewise greater.

Friar Whelm displayed the ability to draw energy simultaneously from multiple victims, reducing the burden on his victims by spreading his feeding around, but this might be due to his being a (suspected) Darklord. His ability to channel that same lifeforce to create the illusion of healing miracles capable of mending both the living and the undead might also be either 'natural' to his strain or a power unique to him.
