When Frantisek Markov was killed (albeit briefly) in 749 BC during the events of Akanga's Rebellion, the island of Markovia itself mirrored Markov's trauma. An earthquake broke the southwestern corner apart from the rest of the island, creating a lengthy fissure known as the Chasm of Woe.[1]
