In Curse of Strahd, Davan Olensky was a messenger for Kolyan Indrirovich carrying the true version of the letter that was rewritten by Strahd for the player characters asking for help. On the way to deliver the messenge, he was killed by dire wolves under the control of Strahd, his corpse and the letter left in the Svalich Woods[1]
