Gelaar Redtree is a minor character from the Ravenloft product line novel Dance of the Dead (Novel). He is an illusionist and provided the special effects for the various theatrical plays performed on La Demoiselle du Musarde, including the Pirate's Pleasure.[1]

Biography

A Darkonian elf from the town of Nevuchar Springs, Gelaar is the brother of Baron Tahlyn Redtree and the father of Aradnia Redtree. After she disappeared, seemingly absconding with a mercenary from Mordent, he became sullen and depressed. However, Captain Raoul Dumont found him highly useful, for Gelaar's illusions provided for much of the commercial success of the Pirate's Pleasure.[1] Gelaar's loved neither the captain nor the first mate of the vessel, Dragoneyes, the latter of whom was rather antagonistic to Gelaar.[2]

After Gelaar discovered that Aradnia had not left of her own free will but was kept in a magical prison against her will by Dumont, the ruthless captain held Aradnia hostage to ensure Gelaar's compliance. He would only allow Gelaar to see his daughter in limited spurts. During their brief times together, Gelaar performed magical illusions for Aradnia[3] When Larissa Snowmane and the creatures of Souragne's swamp attacked Dumont and his undead crew, Gelaar helped Larissa free Dumont's slaves. Skreesha the ravenkin gave Gelaar the knowledge he needed to free Aradnia.[4] Gelaar and Skreesha went on to become good friends. Gelaar now works for Larissa Snowmane in her travels on the newly renamed River Dancer.[5]
