Hermos the Giant is the second in command and the spiritual leader of Carnival. He was one of the original troupers of the Puppet Show, and led the others out of L'Morai.[1]

Hermos was born as Francis Ciantioux in the city of L'Morai. His parents were Phillipe Ciantioux and Margorie Ciantioux, both drunkards and abusers. For hiding and disobeying his parents, Hermos was turned into a boy-giant and taken off to Carnival L'Morai as a freak. There he encountered the Puppetmaster, lord of the Carnival, and Marie, a blind juggler. For a time, the misfit performers served their oppressive masters, until Marie and Hermos led an rebellion.[1]

In the struggle against the Puppetmaster, Hermos learned that Marie became touched by the symbol of the carnival, so claimed as its new master. Hermos spared Marie a horrible future by strangling her and telling the others she had bid them to leave I'Morai, at once turning her into a martyr and a hero.[1]

In traveling the Land of Mists, Hermos and his fellow outcasts were treated as scum by the Darkonians and taken prisoners in the next realm, but freed by Isolde, who became their new leader.[2]

Hermos venerates Qin-sah and Tidhare.[2]

Hermos and L'Morai are featured Carnival of Fear. Isolde's Carnival is detailed most fully in the book of the same name but also described in Champions of Darkness and Domains of Dread.
