Iron Road

The Iron Road joins Toyalis and Sly-Var, traversing the Ensommark ("Lonely Plain"), and continues on to the east into Nova Vaasa, connecting with the Vaere Bange Road that joins Bergovitsa and Arbora. It connects in Toyalis with the Red Highway to Ramulai and with the Warlock's Road to Immol.

The Iron Road crosses the Saniset River a third of the way to Sly-Var from Toyalis, remaining on the north side of the river beyond that. The point of crossing would be the transfer point for goods being carried by water to and from Toyalis. It would also be the point where Hazlik crosses the river when commuting between Toyalis and his private estate Veneficus. A ferry, albeit a large one that can handle wagons, would be preferable from the standpoint of river traffic, but Hazlik is not a patient man. Then again, perhaps he doesn't travel by mundane means over much. Still, a wide and soaring arched bridge of stone from the wizard who raised Ramulai in a day would be a nice touch. A mundane bridge thrown across the river for Hazlik's convenience, the river traffic be damned, might fit better with the Red Wizard's priorities and character. A draw bridge might work however. A ferry at the most important river crossing in Hazlan just seems out of place. The Iron Road crosses the Genspejle ("Mirror River") in Sly-Var. Again there must be a bridge or a ferry capable of handling wagons. If a bridge, river traffic to and from the the Saniset could be harmed.

Trade is brisk along the Iron Road between Toyalis and Sly-Var. The toll charged by the Nova Vaasan authorities hardly facilitates trade to the east, reflected, perhaps, in the condition of the road itself beyond Sly-Var, where it becomes little more than a wagon trail. Trade is, however, also carried on with Nova Vaasa from Sly-Var via the Saniset River.
