Marasmos

Marasmos[1] is an alkilith, a powerful and amorphous tanar'ri, but beyond that, through numerous Power Rituals, Marasmos has turned itself not only into a cause of disease, but a veritable plague itself. Through its Cult of Suppuration, Marasmos can spread its infective essence through mere touch. The infection of Marasmos works in a process much similar to transposition, ultimately in Maramos' corruption, domination, and ultimately the death of the infected.

When enough of Marasmos' evil infection congeals inside a victim, they die, spawning an alkiolyte, a miniature copy of Marasmos with correspondingly less power. Although these small demons cannot exist outside a host for long, if enough combine they can create an effectively self-sustaining body for a "new" Marasmos.

The first record of Maramos' existence in the Demiplane of Dread comes in 650 BC during the Dead Man's Campaign. Since then, it has visited a number of domains and gather a correspondingly large number of land-based powers. Although it is incredibly hard to destroy permanently already (see the phylactery section of this article), Marasmos ultimately seeks to learn the Lamordian land-based power of hyper-regeneration, an ability that would make it effectively immortal and invincible.

Phylactery

Maramos' phylactery is no single object but rather its Suppuration, the disease that holds its essence. Any infected host can serve to keep its spirit intact, ready and waiting to bring about a new plague and ultimately, a new body.

Reality Wrinkle

22 ft. radius. The reality wrinkle of an alkiolyte is equal to double its hit dice.
