Patrina Velikovna is a Groaning Spirit or spectre (depending on the version used) who resides in the crypts of Castle Ravenloft. Her tomb is labelled "Bride,"[1] so it is likely that she was a bride of Strahd von Zarovich, and hence most likely a reincarnation of Tatyana.

In I6: Ravenloft

Patrina was a gypsy elf maiden who, having learned in early life a great deal of the black arts, was nearly a match for Strahd's powers. She felt a great bond with Strahd and desired to become one of his wives. Strahd, ever willing, agreed, but before the final draining of spirit from her soul could take place, her own people stoned her to death in mercy. Strahd demanded, and got, the body. She then became a banshee who now haunts her tomb.[2]

In Fair Barovia

Patrina was a dusk elf that eschewed primal magic for that of shadow magic as a witch. Willfully courted by Strahd, Patrina sought to devour an elf child so that she could complete the transformation into a vampire. However, her clan stoned her to death before it could finish. She now exists as an undead spirit on Lysaga Hill.[3]

In Curse of Strahd

Patrina Velikovna was a dusk elf who learned much dark magic and is so doing formed a tight bond with Strahd. She asked for them to make their dark vows in marriage. Before Strahd could fully drain her life away and turn into a vampire, her elf clan stoned her to death. Strahd demands her body and put her in the crypts. Patrina's spirit restlessly haunts her tomb as a banshee, unable to rest until she becomes married. If raised from the dead, she is the equivalent of an Archmage NPC Archetype of Neutral Evil alignment, though she has no spells prepared. Once alive, she pretends to be helpful in wanting Strahd's destruction, but this is just a ruse to manipulate the player characters to her own ends.[4]

The dreams of Kasimir Velikov, Patrina's brother, dreams are haunted by her undead spirit. In Kasimir's nightmares, she plays upon his guilt, regret, anger, and sorrow, pretending to have changed her ways. She implores him to seek out the secrets of the Amber Temple. Patrina manipulated Kasimir into thinking the secrets needed to restore her to life and break Barovia free of its curse lie inside. Although he frequently spies on it, he needs help (such as from the player characters to get inside. There he may accept the dark offerings from Zhudun (in area X42) in order to revive his sister the crypts of Castle Ravenloft (area K84/Crypt 21). Patrina, for her part, is completely insincere in her desire to end Strahd, for she only wishes to become a powerful vampire in her own right.[5]

Strahd, for his part, no longer holds any special feelings for her and will likely simply turn her into a vampire spawn and seal her away again in her tomb. She will do her best to escape this, for her own agenda outweighs everything else.[6] Should he die and she lives, Patrina may seek to become Barovia's new darklord.[7]
