Rozaleen's Tarokka Deck

Rozaleen's tarokka deck is a powerful magic item (a minor artifact, in fact) and heirloom of the Zarovan tribe of the Vistani, possibly created by Madame Eva herself. Although missing two cards- the Five of Swords and the Innocent- the tarokka deck has the power to grant divination abilities even to those not of Vistani blood, and a full-blooded Vistani may use it not to merely foretell someone's future as to play a hand in shaping it. However, the deck implements a curse upon any who use it.. Case in point, it vastly empowered the Ashington Curse laid by Rozaleen into repeating the tragic events of her death and the ensuing mass murders into an event that repeats every 17 years.

Eight and a half decades ago, the tarokka deck was taken by the young runaway Rozaleen when she left her family as an act of rebellion against her father, who felt she was too young to wisely use the artifact's powers. She was ultimately kidnapped by deranged noblemen and taken to Ashington Manor. After enduring a night of torment and abuse, Rozaleen was ultimately murdered by Lord Herod Ashington before she could finish her final tarokka reading. Before she died, Rozaleen laid a curse upon the manor and its inhabitants, such that none of her tormentors would escape the manor should she fail to and that they would never escape until the final cards were laid down. Soon thereafter, Lord Herod and his guests all met their doom in a grisly night of mass murder, with only the vehrteig Maekon escaping due to her curse immunity. Maekon took the deck with her and has carried it ever since. It has subconsciously nudged her to reprise her role in the murders.
