The Barovian Calendar begins in 1 BC with the Von Zarovich Family's unification of Barovia from several separate city states.[1] During this time, several merchant families achieved noble status thanks to the judicious use of power and wealth. Such families included the Boritsi Family, Cosco Family, Olzanik Family, and the banking family of the Dilisnyas.[2]
