Hello folks :)

Post by Checco »

Not knowing which sub-forum where to introduce myself, I chose this one.

Pleasure to meet you all ;), I'm Sorti's bro (it's a dirty work, but someone must do it...), registered to be able to vote in the Reanimated Ravenloft Contest when it reaches the public poll stage.

Of course, I would have registered and talked to you long ago, but being a PC in a low-magic gothic campaign my dictatorial DM forbade me from watching this forum, because of the many spoilers (as if he could be able to keep me away from his secret notes, if I wanted...).

Well, to be honest, I do not like spoilers over Ravenloft myself, but I could not miss an opportunity to talk bad about my DM :).

Greetings, Checco. Welcome aboard. :D How's Sorti's campaign going? Care to tell us about your character?

Thanks for the welcome :D.

My *unlucky* character is a swashbuckler from Dementlieu named Philippe, who became a sympathetic medium -read VR's guide- because of an accident with a ghost, which led him to be confined in an asylum for 1 year.

He studies the moster lore about ghosts (which he was surprisingly capable of defeat, so far) to understand what happened to him, and what should he do.

Completely ignorant about magic -we play a low-magic campaign-, he became a faithful servant of Ezra after *believing* she saved him more than once against ghosts and other children of the night.

His short-term aim is to survive the impossible odds which our infamous DM throws against us (which already claimed the lives of half the party from campaign start, though I must say Sorti always leaves one chance to survive every situation...so far :)...), fiends, vampires and other thrice-damned children of the night we have to face often without a Wizard or Cleric.

We basically have only defensive little magic items, though both the magic system and the class system are not those of the PHB (the former's change is even unknown to the players, to keep the magic more mysterious), we use a homemade point-buy class system which effectively turned our characters in something similar to Fighter/Rogue/Ranger/Expert gestalts.

I opted for a defensive swordstyle (Einhander), and use Feints and sneak attacks, something completely ineffective against constructs and undead but useful to boost the AC enough to survive -often because the enemy attacks another PC after seeing my defence is huge-.

Sorti's games sure sound like something - as are his domain submissions, so far. The "Language: Odiaran*" domains are all Sorti's, correct? Is your campaign under a "no spellcasters" policy then?

The current campaign has a 'only NPCs/Villains spellcasters' policy, that means the party constantly tries to goad Gennifer and others to tag along everytime the opportunity presents itself :).

As for the roleplaying, playing with a magic system different -in a way we even as players do not know- from the core's was a fresh start after so many high magic campaigns, and it helps the immersion a lot.

The Odiaran language was chosen because it's what resembles more medieval Italian, and we wanted to see if we could create Italian-flavored gothic domains, choosing several ideas from what our background offers (we worked together on all his entries, since mine did not pass the first selections , and working in groups is always better).

Of course, many had to be made 'more gothic', as Italy is not known for having a deep gothic tradition (the reason why Borca had to be shaped with more slavic names, for instance).

I'm curious to see if in the contest some of our entries are approved as 'fully gothic', despite the background.
