Card Linden is a minor character from the story "A Darkness Falls". She is a human woman who lives in the Divided States in the Wartorn Cluster.

Background

She is first encountered by the main characters, traveling with a band of the Society of the Wandering Eye with her young son. Although she initially appears to be fairly harmless, though perhaps overprotective of her son, several things become evident as the story develops:

  • Card is a daughter of the murderous Linden clan;
  • Card was intentionally leading the Society of the Wandering Eye to an encampment of her clan, intending for them to be devoured;
  • Card had deliberately given birth to her child and "raised him as preciously as veal" with the intention of eating him while he was still young;
  • To achieve her goal of delivering the Society and restraining them for consumption, Card had contracted with Griffin.

Current Sketch

Card was last seen fleeing in Griffin's company after the latter had shot Janie Augustus, Dona, Agent Foxe and Agent Foxe's partner, having stolen her son back from agent Foxe. Given that her alliance with Griffin had already shown some cracks and she had now aided in actions that angered the Divided States' Darklord, it is anyone's guess how long she may survive.

Appearance

Card is described as having painted her hair a riot of colours, 'all the colours of the rainbow'. She has tattoos on both arms; the Face Cards[1] on one arm, and the Major Arcana[2] on the other. Flowers were twined between the cards, identifying Card as a member of the Society of the Wandering Eye. The possibility exists that she had joined the Society for the sole purpose of luring Society members and those who asked for their help into her clan's clutches.

Powers and Abilities

Card did not appear to be a strong fighter or a profound spellcaster. Griffin mocked her, claiming her powers amounted to little more than 'card tricks'. Given that she was tattooed with the Major Arcana of the Tarot[3], Card may be a fortune teller or a low-level Divination specialist.
