First mentioned in Quoth the Raven Issue 32 in the story "A Darkness Falls". The Society of the Wandering Eye was first born in the Divided States after the destruction of Washington DC. They are colloquially also known as "Meddlers" or "Medlars"[1].

Background

Composed of dreamers, wanderers and those who simply could not stomach the hellscape of post-Division city life, the Society sports many of the trappings of the Hippie movement[2]. Leading nomadic lives, engaging in casual use of mind-altering substances and free love[3]. Indeed, in "A Darkness Falls" it is revealed that the founding members of the society initially fled undesirable lives in the cities of the Divided States in the company of surviving Hippies.

As a group, the Society of the Wandering Eye pursues mystery in all forms. Members of the group can be found investigating unsolved crimes and urban legends, chasing myths and researching mysteries. Although they are often lambasted for being drug-runners and for tampering with crime scenes, the Society has actually solved a lot of crimes by approaching them in creative ways, and brings a lot of hope to people who no longer have access to the protections offered by centralized government and reliable law enforcement.

Additionally, the Society has grown into the closest thing the Divided States have to a School of "Magick" - a moving school that demands neither tuition nor oaths of allegiance, only curiosity and the willingness to learn - and offers a way out for people who wish to flee the various tyrannies that have sprung up out of the Divided States' general anarchy.

Characteristics

Members of the Society can be recognized by the floral tattoos they place somewhere on their body upon joining the group. These tattoos can be placed anywhere, and vary from a single, small blossom to tattoos that cover large areas of the body. Although there is no strict requirement for them to do so, members of the Society tend to switch to a vegetarian[4] diet when gathered into a larger group, and sometimes even switch to vegetarianism completely.

Dark Side

Although the Society as such is a benevolent group, it has sadly become host to a parasite. The Lotus Society uses the same external trappings as the Society of the Wandering Eye and accesses both its magical sources and knowledge on the creation of drugs and crime scene investigation in its mercenary work.
