Bodaks are undead[1][2] rising from mortals whom met their doom in the face of terrible evils[2] such as the Abyss[1]. Though possessing some ephemeral memories and perhaps even mannerisms of their bygone mortal existences[1][2], bodaks in general despise all living things[2]. Despite their antisocial natures, Bodaks may nonetheless organize into small gangs in addition to wandering alone[2]. A bodak can make more of its kind through its death gaze, which can slay onlookers[1][2]. Although capable of striking with its fists, the bodak relies mostly upon its death gaze attack in combat[1][2].
Bodaks are fully corporeal, though marred by gray flesh, warped features, and stretched-out heads that resemble skulls[1][2]. A bodak can speak a humanoid language it knew from life[2].
History Related to the Land of Mists
Two bodaks, Coriemon and Cheldon Illcome, lurking in the vicinity of Mordentshire during the time of Strahd and Azalin's visit to Mordent[3]. Coriemon took usurped control over a local gang of ogres. The gang's former leader, Gorbagh Snarltooth, became Coriemon's second-in-command[4]
Encountering Bodaks
Bodaks can be encountered in Keening[5] and Mordent.[6]
