  • Mentioned in Wartorn Gazetteer Volume II: Conquista, la Presse Libre is a newspaper that operates from the domain of Conquista in the Wartorn Cluster, reporting both on national and international news events. La Presse Libre is a hard-hitting newspaper, that will tackle any story, regardless how many or few people want it investigated and written about. Anyone wanting to know the very latest news on crime, politics, trade and science is well-advised to keep an eye out for the latest publication. La Presse Libre almost grudgingly carries 'puff pieces' - more lighthearted news items of local interest - to pad out its pages when major news is a bit slack.
  • Originally founded in Vieuxlyons, la Presse Libre migrated over to Conquista after the formation of the Cluster in 740 BC, seeing as its freedom to print the actual truth was seriously curtailed in its home country. It should be noted that although the newsbill is not prevented from telling the truth, nor its reporters from asking the hard questions and connecting the dots to find that truth in Conquista, the newsbill did not initially receive much protection from those who are angry about the news it tries to share. La Presse Libre's office in Alsem was fire-bombed, for instance, after the newsbill reported on the Butterfly Murders; a recurring pattern of prostitute murders the paper connected to political party los Ermanos del Cuchillo, whose members showed a tendency to ... reprehensible behaviour. With the appointment of Francisco Hareleg as Alsem's governor, however, the paper enjoys much greater security.
  • Although la Presse Libre is, in truth, an excellent newspaper whose staff uphold high standards of quality, morals and ethics, it is frequently scorned by those in power and denounced as a mere tabloid. The fact that it manages to survive and maintain multiple offices, especially in the Demiplane of Dread, is nothing short of a miracle. The newspaper does carry a certain amount of advertisements to pay for costs, but it is mostly dependent on people buying copies - and a select group of anonymous, but very generous supporters who are helping the publication stay afloat.
