The Unchaining of the Ghosts is an annual festival celebrated in the village of Kurtepeta in Sri Raji. The festival opens with singing and dancing, encouraging any lingering ghosts to take the happy step of moving on so that they may be reincarnated. However, it ends with burning turmeric, which is held to drive ghosts away more forcibly.[1]
