Encounters

The cities of al-Kathos bustle with life, but if characters can manage to fit in with the crowd, they have little to fear here except the thieves.

Outside the city is another matter. The jungle is deadly, prompting 25% chance for an encounter once every hour during the day with wild animals, or the more exotic al-Kathian monsters that serve the Rotting Gods. At night, this chance increases to 50% each hour.
In the desert, the chances of an encounter are generally low, almost neglectible, though at the Shifting Sands, there is a 50% chance each night on an encounter with the Sand Singers.
Encounters in the desert may on occasion also involve Jann or Great Ghuls, and characters in the jungle may encounter Marrashi.

Personalities of Note

Abd-al-Mamat, the judging vizier, rules The Maimed City in the north of the domain. His rule is absolute, though lately he has met with some resistance. A strange priest, Dezken Kebat, has come to the city, and is currently rallying people towards a religion of self-mutilation.
In the South, people are plagued by the Great Ghul Farida, who carves the artifact that will enable her escape from the demiplane out of the skulls of her victims.
The most feared creature in al-Kathos, however, is without a doubt the warmonger Malbus.
No-one really knows much about the Black Lord in the Citadel, but he is commonly depicted as a ram-horned abomination, a brutal killer, who is the subject of many fantastic tales.

He is also said to be the Warlord portrayed in a popular poem called 'The Seven Martyrs'.
