The current society counts a little more than twenty members, who travel all over the core.

Becoming a member requires a recommendation of an existing member, as well as a thorough investigation by both Liederick Meier and Gomez Avantas. While the former is generally quick to make up his mind, an interview with Avantas can take days. A member should be prepared to be questioned thoroughly on his personal choices and tastes before ‘the Arbiter’, as he is referred to, decides upon the membership.

The interview quickly makes clear what is most valued in a member: the ability to stay impartial in political conflicts, and the willpower to restrain oneself to not directly interfere with local events. Aside from that, a member is expected to have a good sense of direction and to be fairly educated. Artistic skills are valued, but not necessary, as the actual drawing of the maps takes place in Mordentshire.

There is no membership fee. Unlike some other societies, members contribute by sharing any information that can contribute to the societies goal of creating accurate geographical maps. In return, members have access to the societies archive, though some of the older or more sensitive information can only be obtained through the explicit permission of the board. Some members may get paid for their travels, but in general they are expected to fare for themselves. Most members are therefore traveling merchants, entertainers, or on occasion, adventurers.
