Marcu Vasilis "exists" as a shell of his former self into which an illithid brain has been transplanted. The former psionic gambler attracted the attention of the God-Brain, was drawn into its realm, and had his brain extracted for its consumption. As to the rest of his body, it was reorganised by the biomancers of that fell place for the reception of an illithid's brain. This was the birth of an abominable double of the original Marcu. This double has been ordered to track down a companion of the gambler, one Lidia Kurator. Marcu had inadvertently brought her mind into contact with that of the God-Brain and so her brain is the next target for consumption.[1][2]
