Marcu Vasilis was born in Borca. He became a gambler, specialising in cards and exploiting the immense advantage afforded by being able to read the minds of his opponents. Eventually, his use of psionics attracted the attention of the God-Brain.
His first contact with the God-Brain caused hallucinations in a gambling hall in Zeidenburg. The contact progressed in Ungrad, where he glimpsed the true form of illithids. The next incident was in Rotwald. In Habelnik, he revealed to Lidia Kurator that he was seeing the creatures all the time.
Gradually, over the course of weeks, the God-Brain imposed upon Marcu's existence the horrid reality of Bluetspur, until, at a bed & breakfast in Waterford, the poor man was taken bodily into the domain during an electrical storm which was the physical manifestation of its crushing psionic reality. Whereupon Marcu's brain was extracted and fed to the God-brain. As to the rest of his body, it was reorganised by the biomancers of that fell realm and the brain of an illithid placed within it. This was the birth of an abominable double of Marcu that has been ordered to track down Lidia Kurator, a companion of the dead man. Marcu had inadvertently brought her mind into contact with that of the God-Brain and so her brain is its next target for consumption.[1][2]
