Gerard Renier

Gerard Renier is a nonplayer character from the Ravenloft campagn setting. In the game world, he is the twin brother of Pierre Renier and the co-leader of the Cult of Simon Audaire, which he hopes to use as a vehicle to stamp out the wererat influence from the Renier Family

History

Gerard Renier was born in 714 BC, the son of Eduardo Renier and Marguerite Pentarde and the grandson of Claude Renier and Isabelle Moseau. He married Sandrine Daugeri and had at least one child, born in 730 BC. His cousins include the infamous Jacqueline Renier, darklord of Richemulot and her twin sister Louise Renier. Marie Renier, Jacqueline and Louise's mother is one of Gerard's aunts; her husband (and Jacqueline and Louise's father) was Simon Audaire.

In 710 BC, Marie Renier]] murdered Simon Audaire and bestowed the Renier surname upon their children. In 726 BC, Jacqueline Renier, Gerard's niece and Marie's son, murdered Claude Renier, the Renier family patriarch, and thereby inherited much of his power. Jacqueline also murdered her own husband, Dominic Soufel in 732 BC.

The passage of wererat lycanthropy from mother to daughter in the Renier family and the murder of male Reniers caused Gerard and his brother Pierre to organize the Cult of Simon Audaire in Ste. Ronges from a group of male Reniers alienated from the current Renier family status quo. There, Gerard struck a deal with dark forces in order to reanimate Simon Audiare, a figure the eponymous mummy cult came to see as a martyr figure of the nonwererat Reniers.

Current Sketch

Gerard and his brother represent masterminds of criminal activity. More social and communicative than his brother, Gerard holds spiritual service for the cult in the Rat-Mummy Temple within the Catacombs of Ste. Ronges, where he makes sacrificial offerings of both wererats and normal humans to Simon Audaire. Gerard shows a fanatical devotion to a vile being with some measure of divinity called the Withered Rat.

Gerard uses Ward Against Wererats to stave off encroachment into the hidden temple.

Game Statistics

2nd Edition:

• Specialty Priest 5; Lawful Evil. Gerard cannot Turn Undead or Command Undead, nor does he have complete access to all the cleric spheres. However, when he casts Animate Dead, Gerard calls up Rank 1 Ancient Dead rather than zombies or skeletons.
