Tara redeemed a [[witch]] Crawford would have otherwise [[killed]], showing Crawford another path. Marek Crawford is a former monster hunter (specifically, witch hunter)>ref>Lights in the Fog, Book of Secrets p.122</ref> originally from Hazlan. From early on, Crawford held an intense loathing for Mulans, Hazlik, and spellcasters. His parents were taken to the Tables by Hazlik's thugs in 721 BC. At 728 BC, he left for Darkon to learn about magic (or specifically, how to fight it.) Crawford began his career in 731 BC and over the years killed many, many evil spellcasters. George Weathermay, Ivan Dragonov, and Dr. van Richten have at one time or another been companions in arms.[1]

Crawford's bloody crusade against witches and mages came to an end when he met Tara Kolyana. Tara redeemed a witch Crawford would have otherwise killed, showing Crawford another path. Since then, Crawford has converted to the worship of Ezra, forsaking many of his old ways.[2]
