The Vaughn Dnar River drains Lake Kronov in Tepest. The Vaughn Dnar passes through Kellee in Tepest and Liara in Nova Vaasa, before being joined by the Trished River just east of Liara and bending to the southeast. It is joined by the Borchava River halfway between Liara and Kantora, and continues east by southeast, passing just north of Kantora, and is joined by the Dnar River, becoming the South Dnar River. The South Dnar River drains into the Nocturnal Sea just north of Egertus at Guldstrand Beach via the Katsmund Canyon. Stonegard, the fortified seat of the Bolshnik family and of its patriarch Prince Othmar, sits opposite Kantora on the north bank of the Vaughn Dnar and east bank of the Dnar.

The South Dnar is navigable, with difficulty owing to its current, from the Nocturnal Sea by small ship, which is to say that a small ship can reach the docks outside of Kantora. Thus it and the Vaughn Dnar at this point are too deep to be forded. Bridges consistent with small ships pose an engineering problem, but none are mentioned, so ferry service for crossing at Kantora would make sense.

The Vaughn Dnar is almost certainly navigable, albeit with with craft not so large as the small ships that mount the South Dnar to Kantora's docks. The Vaughn Dnar is also the only tributary of the South Dnar River that is conceivably navigable to its source, although with smaller craft still as one climbs past the Borchava River and the Trished River on the way to Lake Kronov in Tepest.

The East Timori Road remains on the south shore of the Vaughn Dnar from Kantora until just after the Trished River, inviting the hypothesis that at that point either the Vaughn Dnar becomes fordable or has a bridge thrown across it that doesn't greatly harm river traffic. To reach this point, the East Timori Road crossed the Borchava River, indicating that it was either more fordable than the Vaughn Dnar or that a bridge thrownn across it would do less harm to river traffic than one thrown over the Vaughn Dnar. In Liara one or more bridges over the Vaughn Dnar can be safely assumed.
