Borchava River

The Borchava River lies south of the Little Borchava River in northwestern Nova Vaasa. It flows out of the nothingness of the Shadow Rift, which is to say that it has its phantom headwaters in the vanished land of Markovia. It rushes down out of the Vaesen Foothills and onto the Elendighedmark ("Plain of Misery"), being joined by the Little Borchava River well south of Liara, and bends to the north east. It joins the Vaughn Dnar River halfway between Liara and Kantora. The Vaughn Dnar continues east by southeast, passing just north of Kantora, and merges there with the Dnar River, becoming at that point the Sydligdnar ("South Dnar River"), which drains into the Nocturnal Sea just north of Egertus beside the port of Guldstrand Beach via the Katsmund Canyon. The land watered by the Borchava River defines the southern limit of the Borchava Duchy of the Hiregaard family.

The Borchava River is crossed by the East Timori Road just before it merges with the Vaughn Dnar River, suggesting that the Borchava is either more fordable than the Vaughn Dnar or that a bridge thrown across the Borchava would do less harm to river traffic than one thrown over the Vaughn Dnar. A draw bridge is another alternative. Given, however, that the Borchava River is probably a major tributary of the Vaughn Dnar River and consequently of the Sydligdnar, which itself is broad, deep, and navigable by small ship from the sea to Kantora, the Borchava may be a large enough river in its own right to be both too useful for river traffic for there to be a bridge and too deep to be easily forded, suggesting a ferry crossing instead. In any case, the Borchava River should probably not be navigable up river beyond the edge of the Vaesen Foothills.

The Borchava is an important source of water for crops, humans, domestic animals, and wild animals. Farmland stretches back from its banks from the end of the Vaesen Foothills to its termination in the Vaughn Dnar. The farms are lightly taxed, relatively speaking, by the Hiregaards. The Borchava River belongs to the Borchava Duchy of the Hiregaard family.
