Nzari is a region of warm jungle that is populated by the Mwele people. Their way of life is one governed by a rich religious tradition and informal social pushes towards proper behavior rather than a set of austere formally established laws that create mandates of conduct. Before the arrival of Mr. Klein, the domain was fairly isolated from the rest of the Land of Mists, save perhaps for the Wildlands. This is not so say that Nzari without trouble before then, as the domain first formed through the depredations of Gatwe, its first (and still one of its current) darklord[2]

However, the arrival of Mr. Klein and his colonists made things worse. In their efforts to harvest the ivory from the elephants and copper from the mines, Mr. Klein and his servants initiated a series of events that cascaded into mass murder, torture, maimings, and all sorts of other abuse. At the end of everything, almost all of the foreigners were killed save for Mr. Klein and a few others.[6] Yet, through a system of governors picked from the native Mweles, Mr. Klein rules through terror and the threat of force.[2]
