Ehrendton

The Ehrendton is a plain in northeast Nova Vaasa. The Dnar River is its western limit; the Sydligdnar and Katsmund Canyon are its southern limit; the Nocturnal Sea is its eastern limit; and to the north, it is unclear whether it stretches into Darkon. The grasses of the Ehrendton are far from luxurious, being short, thin, and prone to a fungus that turns them from yellow-green to an unhealthy white. Such patches are called dødmangraes ("dead man's grass") and are said to be the sign of an unmarked grave. The region is remote and sparsely populated. There are no bridges to connect it to the south nor perhaps the west. The Sydligdnar is at no point fordable and may only have ferries at Kantora and at its mouth. The Dnar is also probably too deep to be forded and may only have a ferry at Kantora. The ruins of the village of Drataan probably lie near the frontier with Darkon. The Ehrendton owes its not inconsiderable fame to The Beast of Ehrendton, penned by Sir Armand Ironhand, which addresses the razing of Drataan. At the foot of the southeastern corner of the Ehrendton, just north of the mouth of the Sydligdnar, is the flourishing shipping centre of Guldstrand Beach. The family of Ehrend lends the region its name. The Count of Ehrendton is a vassal of the Bolshniks. Opposite the southwest most corner of the Ehrendton are the fortress of Stonegard, the seat of the Bolshnik family and of its patriarch Prince Othmar, and the city of Kantora.

An examination of geographic features prior to the Great Upheaval suggests that the Ehrendton lay at that time entirely within the frontiers of the Nightmare Lands. Events as retold in The Beast of Ehrendton and elsewhere belie this suggestion however, leaving little doubt that the Ehrendton once lay east rather than west of the Dnar river. As dramatic a change as this might seem, it was no more so than a handful of others which, when taken together, effaced from the Core the existence of the Nightmare Lands.
