Souragne is a domain based around stereotypical Louisiana voodoo, and as such consists primarily of a vast swamp. The two most important individuals in Souragne are the darklord Anton Misroi, a zombie lord, and Chicken Bone, the most powerful voodan (Ravenloft's equivalent of a houngan) in the swamp.

Chronology
- 635 BC[2] Mistakenly thinking his wife and another plantation owner are engaging in a tryst, Anton Misroi orders his servants to drown them in quicksand. Before his wife dies, she curses him, causing Misroi to sink as well. He calls out to the powers that be to not let him perish, and the Dark Powers answer his cry by transforming him into a zombie lord. After he is chased off his own property into the swamp, Souragne forms as a domain of Ravenloft.[3]
- 645 BC Anton Misroi applies the supernatural knowledge he gained from the Maiden of the Swamp to become the Lord of the Dead. He gains fantastic mystical power and appears alive and human once more. However, by infusing himself with supernatural might, Misroi binds his essence to the swamp. Therefore, he cannot walk on the solid ground of the western half of his domain.[4]
- 715 BC First known sighting of Chickenbone in Souragne.[5]
- 732 BC La Maison Soulombre is abandoned after one of the workers murders the plantation owner. This will become important later as the Fraternity of Shadows eventually purchases it and uses it as a local headquarters.[6]
- 739 BC[7] As a lunar eclipse hangs low overhead, adventurers destroy the zombie lord Marcel Tarascon.[8]Thus, the 4th Verse of Hyskosa's Hexad comes to pass.[7]
- 760 BCJanuary Upon the suggestion of Ambrose Skully, Professor Viktor Hazan, Dr. Anthony Reuland, and a number of others from the Ste. Ronges Cell of the Fraternity of Shadows settle down in La Maison Soulombre, a lonely plantation outside of Port d'Elhour. Led by Hazan, they begin the hunt for the traitorous Erik van Rijn in Souragne.[9]
Later that month, Anton Misroi calls them to his presence, where they proceed to strike a truce with each other.[10]
