Burton Wescote was born in Mordent in the first half of the prior century. The Wescotes resided in Wescote Manor, northeast of Mordentshire, a little east of Mill Road. In 643 BC, an arranged marriage was imposed upon Burton and the daughter of a wealthy family that had immigrated to Mordent in the prior decades and that had somewhat tense relations with the Wescotes. On the night of the marriage, the Burton's bride-to-be was involved in the death of Michael Wescote, Burton's brother. Shortly thereafter, she was chased into a bog by Burton's hounds. Burton may or may not have set the hounds after with the intent of killing her. In any case, she drowned in the bog, but not before cursing Burton to an eternity of suffering. Burton in fact lived for over century, during the last ten decades of which he aged not a day, was haunted by the ghost of the woman, and witnessed the bogs devour his estate. In 743 BC, he sought the intervention of adventurers. They were able to break the curse, putting thereby an end to Burton's life, the Wescote family, and the haunting of the Great Moor by his bride-to-be. At the time, the remaining servants in Wescote Manor were Darrell Holmes, Martine Garrett, Douglas Michaels, and Gabrielle Morgan.
