The zombie golem is a magical animated construct and as such lacks the dread golem template. It is a mindless automaton that obeys in the most straightforward way possible the orders of its maker, drawing no conclusions and taking no initiative. The creature will not resort spontaneously to special actions such as tripping or disarming, but it may either be given a specific instruction to make one such attack or may be directed as necessary by a maker who is immediately at hand. When issuing instructions to the animate thing, its maker is wise to error on the side of simplicity.[1]
The creature is pieced together somewhat haphazardly from body parts taken from the broken bodies of destroyed zombies.[2] It stands out when inactive or even within a crowd of zombies. It is employed by arcane spellcasters usually as a guardian that is preferably, if one still has a sense of smell, not kept too close by. Its invention was by Azalin while still in Barovia, prior to his darklordship.[3]
Zombie golems can be found in Darkon[4], Necropolis[5], and
(very rarely) in Souragne.[6]

A zombie golem is pieced together with no great precision from the broken bodies of destroyed zombies. Only 5% of any one zombie can be used in the creation of the golem, so the creature often incorporates parts collected from 20 or more undead. The successful maker of a zombie golem is an arcane spellcaster of at least the 16th level. He or she pours 50,000 gp (or its equivalent) into bringing his or her idea to "life". Of this total, 100 gp are spent fashioning the thing's body, which takes one month and a successful Craft (leatherworking) or Heal check (DC 13). The ultimate animation of the thing requires 1,200 XP from the caster and the casting of the following spells: bull's strength, control undead, limited wish, polymorph any object, and stinking cloud.
