Gerhard Beckmann is the creator of The Patchwork Bride, a dread flesh golem. After experiencing a lifetime of rejection and failure, Beckmann believed the invitation to study with Dr. Victor Mordenheim was his last chance of achieving social acceptance and success. This hope ended with Beckman's unwitting discovery of Dr. Mordenheim's operations to restore Elise Von Brandthofen-Mordenheim. Mordenheim demanded Beckmann left, and he complied. Crushed, Beckman spent the next few months in Pont-a-Museau creating a way to make amends. He created a flesh golem to be an Elise reborn and then educated and indoctrinated "Elise" to believe she was the genuine article. That flesh golem is the Patchwork Bride. Fueled by Beckmann's obsession for social acceptance and his drive to make the Bride a real Elise, the Bride came to live. [1]

Unfortunately, Dr. Mordenheim became direly offended at the mockery of his wife and cast both Beckmann and the Patchwork Bride out of Schloss Mordenheim. Beckmann fled, abandoning his creation. He made his way to Kartakass, where he enjoyed the calm of a modestly successful business as a physician for over a decade.[2]

Beckmann's peace was not to last. The Patchwork Bridge tracked Beckmann down and has wandered with him, demanding he keep remaking her face to resemble Elise better. Beckmann did too well a job indoctrinating an identity into her. The Bride is delusional enough to believe she truly is Elise. In the Bride's mind, if her face is remodeled well enough, Victor will take her back.[3]
