Henri Milton

Though once a normal (if mediocre) artist, Henri Milton is a painter whose craft is now starting to build him a considerable reputation in Pont-a-Museau art world[1]. This success has come at a dire cost, for the source of Milton's success is not his own skill but rather a cursed magic item known as Picalinni's Palette. The Palette magically creates master level (if grotesque and gory) art, but it requires the blood of a killed victim[2]. Using the Palette has turned Milton into a maledictive wereboar, cursed to turn into the man-beast hybrid aspect whenever he paints[3]. Further use of the Palette may permanently shift him into an all-but-mindless beast permanently[4]. Milton's use of the Palette also means further ill for his patrons, for viewing his paintings created with the palette can cause madness. Ghorman is one victim driven mad in such a way[3].

History

Born into a troubled home in Il Aluk, Henri Milton created art as a way to transcend the conflict of his parents. At 16, he enrolled at the College d'Art in the Invidian town of Karina. Education drained the majority of his coffers, and he left only a year after first attending. He failed to find adequate work in Karina but eventually found well-paying (if unsatisfying) work aboard hauling freight aboard a riverboat[1].

His work aboard the riverboat put him into contact with a young artist passenger named Boris Stanielle. Stanielle's painting showed a dramatic and evocative style, one that Milton identified with and coveted for his own. Upon further investigation, Milton discovered that a wondrous item called Picallini's Palette provided the spark in Stanielle's work. Milton absconded with the Palette, eventually settling in Pont-a-Museau. Here, the Palette allowed him to begin an art career that could not only sustain him but also perhaps eventually earn him considerable renown as well[1].

While granting Milton considerable success as an artist, the Palette has left Milton's soul with the taint of evil. Although he attempts to resist the temptation the hated Palette offers, Milton has nonetheless allowed an addiction to overtake him. As his dissatisfaction with his normal work mounts, he returns to the Palette. The Palette pushes him toward ever more macabre and debased styles and subject matter[4]. The worst thing is that the Palette has pushed him to allow the Palette do the work for him using the blood of a murdered victim[2]. Milton has thus brought in a number of different people to act as models for his work, first attempting to use conventional materials but reverting to the Palette when dissatisfied with his work[4].

Lair

Located in a downscale neighborhood in Pont-a-Museau, Henri Milton's home is a cramped apartment, albeit one with a small art studio attached[1]. Several paintings stand in the studio, inflicting madness on any unwary persons who remove the curtains obscuring them[5].
