Introduction

"Well, at least they don't call us Cheese Island!"

Milk Island, formally known as Cal Demos, is one of the smaller of the Farm Islands in the bay of Sunderheart. It is known and named for its large number of dairy farms, and the milk and cheese they produce and distribute throughout the land.

The majority of the milk produced on Milk Island is traded throughout the Farm Islands or sold at the market in the city of Sunderheart as cheese. Because any food produced in Sunderheart bears the dark mystique and reputation of the realm, they are able so sell their cheeses for especially favorable prices to foreign merchants wishing to sell them as strange delicacies in the other domains.

The popularity of their product has allowed the people of Milk Island to live better lives than most in the farm islands, but life there is still hard, and the shadow of Sunderheart is ever present. The sign over the tavern at the island's port shows a cow with a mermaid's tail leaping from the sea. But it's eyes are distant, and the sign has faded from years of salt and storms.

Monsters still attack from the sea, and while infrequent, the possibility of a pirate raid is never far from thought.

Some farmers have also complained of werebats.

Geography

A dozen large farms stretch out over the small island, covering almost all of it, so that there are very few trees. There is no town or village on this island, only the port where they go to bring their harvest to market.

History

The cows have only been there for about forty years, but Cal Demos has been farmland for hundreds. Before that, nobody knows what it was used for. The castle on this island, the Tower of Cal Demos, is one of the oldest in Sunderheart. None remember it's original owners. Even amongst the island's inhabitants, it is considered far too elegant a structure for such an out-of-the-way island. It is also believed to be magical. There are extensive chambers beneath it.

Current Sketch

Fewer than 100 humans live on Milk Island. The island's governor, Nicholas Brandas, resides in the tower of the Tower of Cal Demos, where he spends every possible moment lost in his books. His daughter, Ankha Brandas, is the islands liaison with the court of Lady Ivania Dreygu. She has a sinister reputation amongst the people of the island.
