Professor Pacali

Professor Pacali formerly taught abnormal physiology at the Brautslava Institute in Darkon. His research brought him to the Carnival with the intention of studying its freaks. He soon fell victim to the Twisting, which condemned him to give birth to the pickled punks, and by the time he discovered that its effects are reversible, it was already too late for him. The nature of his twisting did not oblige him to renounce his post at the institute, but he nevertheless appears to have done so, driven by an overwelming sense of embarassment and an obsessive desire to cure the Twisting and extinguish its source.

Professor Pacali travels as a member of Carnival, but makes regular trips home to Darkon to birth his pickled punks.

Professor Pacali is one of those few mortals in the Land of Mists with at least a passing knowledge of the Abyss and more generally of demons and fiends.

The professor, at the instigation of the Gentleman Caller, is destined at some point to attempt to destroy Isolde with the assistance of a mystick cage spell. Isolde holds the Twisting at bay by force of will. The attack will cripple her ability to do so and the full fury of the the Twisting will be unleashed upon those in the immediate vicinity. Since the mystick cage spell is actually beyond Pacali's capacity to learn and memorise, presumably it will be cast from a scroll provided to him by the fiend.
