Roja is an NPC and the primary antagonist of Hour of the Knife, though he is only encountered at the end. A Dread Doppelganger, Roja is now head of the Mulor clan. He resides in the Bloodhaven Estate in Paridon. For a time, he claimed the Fang of the Nosferatu and attempted to depose Sodo as lord of Paridon[1], but his plan failed.[2]

Biography

Roja was the illegitimate son of one of the Bloodsworth Family and a doppelganger of the Mulor Clan posing as a servant of the family. Roja grew up snubbed by the family as most children born out of wedlock are. After finding his true nature, Roja murdered and replaced Sir Edmund Bloodsworth (Human), his half-brother and patriarch of the Bloodsworth Family. Roja enjoyed the irony of dominating the family that formerly spurned him. Years of control have caused Roja to truly think he is Sir Edmund with only a vague memory that there ever used to be a separate human by that name.[1]

Roja served Sodo (the darklord of Paridon) until the year 742 BC[2], the year Sodo chose him to be the next Bloody Jack. The siren call of the Fang of the Nosferatu proved to be too seductive, and Roja attempted to usurp control of Paridon from Sodo by using the Fang of the Nosferatu to Gain Invulnerability for 13 years by killing six people on six successive nights. However, his plot ultimately failed.[3]

In Hour of the Knife

In HotK, Roja has betrayed Sodo by attempting to gain the benefits of the Fang of the Nosferatu for himself rather than committing murder-by-proxy for Sodo's benefit. Bardan, Roja's huntsman, procures the prostitutes and escorts who become Roja's victims. Roja murders one victim each night until the climax of the adventure, when the player characters encounter him at a social gathering at the Bloodhaven Estate, where he plans to kill his sixth and final victim.

During the adventure, Sudji assumes the identity of Inspector Andrew Logan in order to obfuscate Roja's involvement and arrange assassination attempts on the player characters.
