Vladimir Horngaard

Vladimir Horngaard is an NPC from the 5th Edition module Curse of Strahd. Now a vengeful revenant, Vladimir Horngaard was once the best of the Order of the Silver Dragon, an order of knights founded by Argynvost and dedicated to making sure the evils of the Amber Temple never escaped. Now he lingers on in death, consumed by hatred that also animates many of his formerly noble order.

History

When Strahd brought war to the valley, the Order became involved and were ultimately overwhelmed and destroyed by Strahd's forces. Sir Godfrey Gwilym, was personally killed by Strahd. Horngaard himself died in the final battle at Argynvostholt. Upon his death, the zealot Horngaard rose as a revenant hellbent on Strahd's destruction. fter Strahd was slain at the massacre at the The Wedding of Sergei von Zarovich, Horgnaard took his forces back to Argynvostholt, where they could presumably rest at last. However, Barovia becoming a domain prevented the escape of their souls, causing their revenants to rise once more in the corpses of other people. They linger in Argynvosthost, menacing Barovia.

Horgaard's descent into darkness had made him forget the love of [Sir Godefrey (Located in area Q37 D), though encountering Sir Godefrey does not put Hoorngaard to rest. Only lighting the Beacon of Argynvostholt by returning Argynvost's skull to the mausoleum can accomplish that.
