Also called the Year Without Spring[1], the Year of Woe was the year of 547 BC or 1934 on the Forfarian Calendar. It marked the climax of Marc ApBlanc's tyranny over Forfar. It included killing of the last few known ApFittles. Dark omens and earth tremors hinted at the dark path the barony was going, causing many of the inhabitants of Birnam and the surrounding countryside to quit Forfar altogether.[1] But Marc did not relent and engaged in the execution of the last ApFitte, thus ensuring Forfar's capture by the Mists.[2]

As Forfar entered the Demiplane of Dread and became forlorn, the land remolded itself horrifically and unnaturally..[2] One such change was the emergence of the Lake of Red Tears and with it, the undead lake serpent known simply as "Agatha".[3] The surviving human Forfarians were eager to flee, settling in Immol by sometime in, on, or between this year[2] and roughly 550 BC.[4] Only a few Forfarians, mostly druids, remained in Forfar to begin "reclaiming" it, although some of the fled Forarians did forge a support system for their kindred that stayed behind.[2]
