Dolor Merryweather

Dolor Merryweather is the eldest son of Errol Merryweather and Salome Merryweather-Smythe, the brother of Serenity Merryweather and Bertrand Merryweather and the grandson of Alois Smythe. He is also the nephew of Michael Smythe and the full cousin of Aleister Smythe.

Dolor was pressed into joining the Fraternity of Shadows by his parents, especially his mother. He achieved a quick promotion through the ranks by virtue of his thesis Cyclical Decay, a chilling analysis of the way empires rise and fall, predicting the loss of critical knowledge as the current civilizations will inevitably fall - and his thesis that they might do so with unnatural regularity in the Demiplane of Dread. His ensuing proposal to create a secure facility where the Fraternity might store its most critical records found favour with the Fathers of the Fraternity, and required him to travel to a far distant Cluster.

Dolor's swift promotion saved him from his brother Bertrand's manipulations. His departure from the Core and prospect of living in relative isolation while he built and then maintained the storage facility did not distress him; he was more interested in his research than he was in his family - with the sole exception of his twin niece and nephew, Thérèse and Pierce, and possibly his by then deceased sister Serenity. Certainly, Dolor insisted on taking the infant twins with him when he departed to start his work.
