Freaks are members of Carnival. They are seen by others as being, to varying degrees, different, abnormal, disfigured, deformed, maimed, impaired, or even incapacitated. Many have succumbed to the Twisting, or otherwise have abnormal anatomy or abnormal physiology. But this is not universally the case. The Skurra have neither abnormal anatomy nor abnormal physiology. Still, they are distinguished from their Vistani kin by their their muteness and their painted faces. Some freaks are able to conceal their unique qualities, although few feel the need of doing so, save to the end of being all the more shocking in the moment of quality's revelation.
