The Church of the Divinity of Mankind is the main religion in Paridon, although it is strictly an atheist one.[1][2] The adherents call themselves Celebrants of Humanity.[3] The faith is centered upon the Temple of the Divine Form.

Dogma

Instead of placing faith in a deity or deities, the Church doctrine is more of a philosophy, one that focuses on the necessity of self realization, or even perfection, in body, mind, and emotion. This is viewed as reaching the (near) divine nature hidden within the human being.[4][5][3] As such, the Temple focuses on providing instruction on how to reach such divinity rather than normal church services or religious rituals.[3] In addition, various lodges also host to gatherings of male Paridoners to discuss philosophy, art, and science, and even a strange monastic tradition has sprung up.[1][2][3]

There is an element of racism embedded in the church doctrine. The divinity of the human form is specifically seen as exactly that- for humans (and perhaps half-elves raised in human communities)[6] Humans are seen as inherently higher than other humanoid races.[5][3] Doppelgangers, in particular, are viewed by the majority of the Church to be abominations that mock the human form by assuming their disguises.[5]
