Arca is a frigid domain, perhaps the coldest that the Land of Mists has to offer. The domain can be reached by sailors from the Core via either the Sea of Sorrows or the Nocturnal Sea by traveling through the Mists until the Mists give way to land. However, icebergs can make traveling through Arca highly dangerous, and the frozen wastes domain has little to offer most foreigners. There is a port for whalers to dock, and it sees use during summer.[3]
The Elsani are the land's native tribe. For most of the year they exist in roaming family groups of up to 20, but in the summer time several hundred of the people will congregate for feasting celebrations. Like the whalers (and the animals and other native life), the Elsani base their living off of the sea, fishing as much as possible during the summer months and storing what the catch in the permafrost.[2]
