Vultharesk is a tiny domain and Island of Terror that contains but a single village of the same name and its immediate surroundings in a small round valley surrounded on all sides by misty and unexplored mountains. (Note that whereas the article describes the community of Vultharesk as a "large village", it lists the number of people less than than one thousand people inside of it.[1] Depending on the exact number of people, Vutharesk could be either a village or a small town based on 3rd edition demographics. Weather in Vutharesk tends to be on the colder side, with brief summers and icy winters filled with horrid snow storms.[1]

Two groups of people live in the valley, the natives of Vultharesk and the Godwyn Family, the ruling family appointed by a conquering empire. The natives of Vultharesk live in conditions similar to CL 5 (Dark Ages cultural level), but the Godwyns live in a (Renaissance (9) cultural level. Similarly, there is a split in behavior between the natives and the colonizers. The natives live by extremely strict codes of behavior that are about avoiding sin at all costs, and the natives equally try to avoid reflective surfaces at all costs. The Godwyns face no such restrictions.[3]

There are few natives horrors in the domain, mostly normal wildlife. There are some dire rats in town, and a handful of goblins skulk the nearby cave systems. However, the natives live in dire fear of the Mirror Man, the cause of their strange behavior.[2]

Vultharesk was created by Ari Marmell with George Marmell for the Book of Shadows
