There are individuals who, for their crimes against others or for their transgressions against the natural order, have been cursed. At one extreme would be an individual like the paladin Rose who was cursed directly by Azalin with his own magic as punishment for her pestering of him. At the other are individuals succumbing to the tempations of the dread desire of attempting to construct life, a transgression for they are cursed directly by the Dark Powers. At this same extreme is the darklord. Darklords are typically cursed directly by the Dark Powers themselves for crimes or transgressions that have not been in any evident way committed against said beings. Incidently, every darklord is by definition cursed: although the category Darklord itself belongs within Cursed, it would be redundent to add the Cursed category to darklords individually. In between the extrmees are individuals upon who curses have been called down by their victims and upon whom curses have been bestowed by the Dark Powers in answer to that call.

Curses can also fall on inanimate objects, including places, or even whole groups.
